Chef Kevin Wagner
Having been raised in a family with two great cooks, it is no wonder that Kevin
followed in his parent's footsteps. Growing up in a cooking environment,
and spending his teenage years cooking at his parent's family restaurant,
helped to shape the destiny of this gregarious local chef.
After graduating high school in 1976, Kevin pursued several other jobs and
interests, continuing to experiment and cook at home. However, the die had
been cast, and he finally returned to his first love of cooking as his full-time
career.
Working in various positions at White Point Beach Lodge, North Hills Nursing Home
and the Mountain Gap Inn, he continued to hone his skills in all areas of
the kitchen. Kevin then moved on to operate the Horn of Plenty Cafe
in Conway during 1994.
Chef Kevin spent the next 8 1/2 years at the Lester B. Pearson Peacekeeping
Centre, located in Cornwallis Park, Nova Scotia. This training institution
has hosted over 150 countries and numerous dignitaries, foreign diplomats,
Canadian government officials..... including Governor General, Adrienne
Clarkson. It also provided for very interesting cuisine combinations and
diverse menus. This greatly assistanced in Kevin's personal and career development,
allowing him to access numerous distinct cultures without extensively travelling.
Recognizing the need for a high quality catering service in Western Nova Scotia, Chef
Kevin formed "Cooking Solutions" Catering, Teaching & Consulting
Services. He now offers his special brand of hospitality and specialty cuisines
to the local area as his full-time occupation.
Always very outgoing and helpful, Kevin is well known for his ethnic-fusion style of cooking, creating dishes using local products but with definite global influences. While his preferences are Mediterranean and Asian cuisines, he is also very comfortable with other types of cooking as well. Of course, these include traditional and local styles, which are also a large part of his vast repertoire.
